Since we did our first Scout Guide Alexandria launch party back in 2022, we have eagerly anticipate the great event and this year’s was no different. The celebration this year transformed Jula’s on the Potomac – in no small part due to our contributions – into a bright, coastal-inspired celebration filled with sunshine yellows, layered textures, and playful nods to St. Barth’s. From oversized floral installations to baskets overflowing with lemons, every detail leaned into a relaxed summer aesthetic that felt polished, vibrant, and completely transportive.
The first floral moment greeted guests before they even walked inside. A large-scale installation of vivid yellow faux florals framed the exterior entrance, creating an eye-catching focal point that immediately set the tone for the evening. Against the waterfront setting at Jula’s, the bold yellow palette felt energetic and unmistakably summery.
Upstairs, one of the central vignette moments combined a beach umbrella and white cocktail table with a cascading floral design overflowing in shades of yellow and white. White hydrangea, yellow and white daisies, and delicate chamomile daisies softened the setup and helped create the relaxed St. Barth’s atmosphere woven throughout the party.
The bar installation carried the floral story upward with suspended white daisies layered overhead, adding movement and texture while drawing guests naturally into the space. The clean simplicity of the white blooms balanced the brighter yellow accents throughout the rest of the event and kept the overall design feeling elevated rather than overly thematic.
For the Scout Guide book display, rattan baskets filled with olive leaf and fresh lemons introduced another strong visual layer while reinforcing the coastal Mediterranean influences behind the design direction. The baskets added warmth and texture while the lemons brought in that unmistakable burst of color that instantly makes a space feel like summer.
Additional floral moments were layered throughout the venue to create continuity across the event. A floral arrangement beside the calligrapher added softness and detail to the ledge display, while a ground installation near the book display helped anchor the space visually and connect the various design moments together.
One of the most playful details of the evening may have been the Veuve Clicquot champagne buckets overflowing with chamomile daisies. The combination felt celebratory and relaxed at the same time, adding another cheerful floral moment while tying beautifully into the yellow-and-white palette carried throughout the party.
Events like the Scout Guide launch party are always especially fun to design because they allow for a more immersive storytelling approach. Rather than focusing on a single centerpiece or installation, the goal becomes creating a complete atmosphere that guests experience from the moment they arrive.
This year’s St. Barth’s inspired celebration at Jula’s on the Potomac captured exactly that feeling: bright, welcoming, layered, and full of thoughtful details that brought a little coastal escapism to the DC waterfront.
