A Nocturne Masque Like No Other

Each year, The Scout Guide Alexandria launch party is a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the dazzling community of entrepreneurs it champions—but this year’s soirée at the Hotel Heron in Old Town Alexandria was something truly extraordinary. Celebrating not only Vol. 10 but also the 10th Anniversary of The Scout Guide Alexandria, the event took on the very embodiment of modern opulence with a touch of moody mystique with a “Nocturne Masque” theme and a venue dressed in artful drama.

As a luxury florist based in Alexandria, VA serving weddings and events across the DC area, we have been honored to assist with bringing Vol. 8, Vol. 9 and now Vol. 10 to life.

A Dramatic First Impression

Guests entered beneath a soft sweep of draped fabric—natural white panels layered and cinched like a theater curtain in a subtle reveal—setting the tone for the night’s unfolding spectacle. Anchoring the entry was a rich floral installation in deep burgundy, plum, and near-black tones. The hues were deliberate: bold but romantic, mysterious but inviting.

Just outside, a vintage black and white car—straight out of a film noir dream—waited with a whimsical flourish: a cascade of roses and carnations unfurling from its trunk, as if the blooms had taken on a life of their own.

Design Meets Drama in the Ballroom

Inside the ballroom, the “masque” unfolded in layers. A striking round bar in black and woven rattan stood at the center, crowned by two towering arrangements perched on gold Harlow stands. These elevated pieces reached up like living sculptures—moody, wild, and architectural with feathery pampas grass casting dramatic shadows. Draping fronds of green hanging amaranthus added whimsy to the design.

Along the tall pub tables, sculptural florals of globe allium, purple mini-calla lilies, purple tulips and rich red roses continued the narrative: grounded in dark tones, punctuated with surprising textures. Cocktail tables carried their own small treasures—low, expressive arrangements of ranunculus and agonis foliage, chocolate lace flower, rich burgundy roses, each one a moment of beauty and tension.

As a creative event florist in Alexandria, we loved the opportunity to lean into a dramatic palette and think beyond traditional floral forms. This event let us fully explore the intersection of storytelling and design.

A rooftop celebration that proves timeless can still be bold. For Elaine & Trey’s wedding at Capitol View at 400, we leaned into classic green and white, but elevated it with sculptural greenery installations, gold Harlow stands, and skyline views that stretched for miles. A ceiling of foliage softened the tented space, while sleek black bridesmaid dresses added contrast and edge. Clean, refined, and impossibly romantic.

It’s Bike to Work Day — and while we usually pedal toward petals, we couldn’t resist sharing this creative twist from Elle & Bryan, one of our couples who wheeled their love of cycling straight into the ceremony. 🚲✨

Elle & Bryan’s wedding at Dumbarton House was full of charm, personal touches, and one especially fun nod to their love of cycling. Bicycle wheels became sculptural backdrops, proving that when it comes to personal touches, there’s no such thing as too niche.

Designing florals around unexpected objects? That’s our lane. And yes — it was all uphill in the best possible way.
