Designing the Folger Gala is unlike designing almost any other event in Washington. Each year begins with a blank slate. The venue remains the same, but the story changes completely.
In 2025, the inspiration came from the glamour and energy of the Harlem Renaissance. White flowers, gilded foliage, and dramatic ostrich feathers transformed the Folger Shakespeare Library into an elegant celebration of jazz and American artistry. This year, the creative team turned in an entirely different direction, drawing inspiration from the romance and refinement of the Regency era.
The design brief called for opulence, movement, and a sense of theatrical abundance. Peacock feathers, trailing vines, richly patterned linens, painterly floral arrangements, and references to still-life paintings combined to create a room that felt as though it belonged in the world of Bridgerton while remaining unmistakably Folger. Why Bridgerton, you might ask? The Folger welcomes Adjoa Andoh as its inaugural Director’s Residency artist, making her gala appearance a hallmark moment. Andoh is loved by many for her performances in Netflix’ Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte as Lady Danbury.
One of the things we love most about designing galas is the opportunity to think beyond centerpieces. Every floral decision must support the overall environment, working in concert with lighting, linens, rentals, entertainment, and architecture. Flowers become part of the storytelling rather than standing apart from it.
That collaborative process is one of the reasons we treasure our relationship with the Folger Shakespeare Library. Designing the gala for a second consecutive year challenged us to create something entirely new while honoring one of Washington’s most remarkable cultural institutions. The result was an event filled with color, texture, movement, and a touch of theatrical magic.
The most memorable event flowers do more than decorate a room. They help transport guests into another world. It was an honor to bring our designs to the 2026 Folger Gala.
