Soft blue flowers, a candlelit aisle, and rooftop views over Washington, DC set the tone for Christina and Martin’s wedding at Hotel Washington last October. The overall design balanced classic wedding elements with a cleaner, more modern floral style, blending whites, peaches, and layered shades of blue throughout both the ceremony and reception spaces.
The ceremony design centered around a dramatic aisle installation that completely transformed the room. A white fabric runner extended through the center of the space while lush floral meadows lined the aisle in alternating clusters of blue and white flowers. Roses, spray roses, blue thistle, delphinium, and layered greenery created arrangements that felt organic and full without becoming overly structured. Interspersed mercury glass lanterns added warmth and glow as guests entered the ceremony.
Framing the ceremony were elevated floral arrangements displayed atop graduated pedestal urns. These larger designs added height and scale while still keeping the overall palette soft and romantic. Following the ceremony, the flowers were repurposed into the reception space, allowing the design to evolve naturally throughout the evening.
Christina carried a cascading bouquet designed in peaches, whites, and pale blue tones. Juliet garden roses, white roses, peach stock, tweedia, blue delphinium, and trailing white phalaenopsis orchids gave the bouquet a loose, elegant shape with just enough movement to feel modern. The bridesmaids carried smaller hand-tied bouquets in whites and blues accented with navy ribbon, while Martin’s orchid boutonniere introduced another clean, sculptural floral moment into the personal flowers.
The reception design leaned into contrast through a mix of tall and low centerpieces. Elevated arrangements atop gold Harlow stands brought height into the room using white hydrangea, roses, stock, and blue delphinium softened with layered greenery. Below, lower compote-style arrangements kept the guest tables intimate and welcoming with textured groupings of hydrangea, lisianthus, roses, eucalyptus, and candlelight.
One detail we especially loved was how the blue accents were used throughout the design. Rather than overwhelming the room, the softer shades of blue appeared almost like watercolor moments layered into the whites and peaches. That restraint kept the wedding feeling timeless while still giving the palette personality.
Hotel Washington works especially well for weddings that want to feel distinctly DC without becoming overly formal or traditional. The clean interiors and rooftop views already bring so much visual energy to the experience that floral design here tends to work best when it enhances the atmosphere instead of competing with it.
Christina and Martin’s wedding struck that balance beautifully. Romantic without feeling overly ornate, classic without feeling predictable, and filled with enough candlelight, texture, and movement to make the entire evening feel warm and inviting from beginning to end.
