Reasons to Love Tent Weddings

We have written about many of our favorite DC wedding venues in event recaps and venue spotlights over the past few years. This past year, more than any other, tent weddings have featured heavily in our rotation. Whether in a backyard, attached to a historic house, on a rooftop or a field somewhere, we love tent weddings!

Tent weddings give you the ability to embrace the outdoors while also protecting you and your guests from the elements. In the case of tents that are not part of an existing wedding venue, it provides you with the freedom to choose vendors you might have your heart set on. While many venues have a short list of vendors to choose from, with a tent wedding, you can have your pick of the caterers, photographers, or decor companies you favor.

We’ve designed for tent weddings on hot and sunny days as well as rainy ones, on rooftops and in backyards. Each tent wedding was as beautiful and memorable as any other wedding we’ve designed! We have a few tent weddings in our queue for the coming year, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Pro Tip: It isn’t a *must* that you decorate your tent, but if do, the options are endless. Greenery-laden chandeliers, floral rings, garland swagged around the tent or loosely or organically placed, up lighting, string lights, and so much more. Just because you’re in a tent doesn’t mean you’re camping. Tents can be as upscale as you imagine your wedding to be.

Dumbarton House Wedding

It’s been a very long time since floral centerpieces were just flowers in a vase. Today’s centerpieces have multiple elements, loads of candles, things that have to be assembled and even built on-site. And yet the presumption persists that the florist is just going to show up with a box that can be left in the corner for someone else to place on the table.

Putting aside the fact that we take far more pride in our work than that… to say that we value logistics and planning is an understatement!! And logistics are truly our skill set. We can tell you how many man hours a particular installation will take and can design for efficiency. It’s truly our super power.

Most floral design relies on other things being in place. Not useful? “You can get into the room at this time.” Actually useful? “The bar you’re building that cascading piece on will in place no later than X o’clock.” But more than that? Start realizing that event demands are not what they used to be.

The Crystal Room is always a lot of look. Those green marble columns, the chandeliers... and yet it`s so quintessentially DC! There`s something about that room that makes pink feel completely at home.⁣
⁣
It took us straight back to Sophia & Daniel`s wedding ceremony in the same space. Pink baby`s breath, roses, the whole thing. Two totally different events, same magic. Pink and the Crystal Room? We`re convinced it`s a love story. 💚🌸⁣

While setting up for the new Georgetown Citibank, we overheard someone say, “This is the moment.” ❤️

And I couldn’t have said it better myself. Because when flowers are doing their job, they don’t just fill a space. They create a moment you can feel.

Meridian House is one of those venues that makes people fall in love the second they see it. The gardens, the historic rooms, the feeling that you`ve stumbled onto this beautiful hidden place in the middle of Washington. It is such a privilege to design there.⁣
⁣
For Erica & Matt, the goal was to keep the flowers feeling like an eloquent dinner party. We filled the tables with hydrangea, stock, roses and spray roses, and lisianthus and lots and lots of candles so the rooms felt alive and welcoming the moment guests walked in. I remember stepping back once everything was set and thinking how light the whole space felt — like spring had simply decided to move inside for the evening.⁣

And when Erica & Matt walked in and saw the room for the first time? The smiles said everything.⁣
