Ritz-Carlton DC Wedding with Chinoiserie

This past summer, the Petal’s Edge team, alongside Sara Muchnick of Sara Muchnick Events, designed and produced this stunning Ritz Carlton DC wedding with chinoiserie vases and an abundance of spirea and white and green summer blooms. The result was a fantastic mix of old and new, traditional meets modern.

A Classic Floral Palette

For Hannah, we designed a timelessly elegant, gardenesque bouquet in a palette of whites and greens. The textured and tailored mix of blooms included white roses, mini-calla lilies, stock, freesia and lisianthus, accented with green lady’s mantle and Italian ruscus foliage. Josh’s simple and refined boutonniere showcased a white mini-calla lily with Italian ruscus foliage.

Natural Ceremony Splendor

Hannah and Josh’s ceremony decor was a show-stopping display of greenery. We constructed their chuppah from simple birch poles, with additional corner pieces made from rustic branches. The front valance was draped with lush Italian ruscus foliage. Dramatic arrangements of white spirea accented with white hybrid delphinium and larkspur flanked the ceremony on graduated pedestals.

Old Meets New Decor

At the reception, guest tables varied amongst three distinct but complementary centerpiece designs. A third of the tables featured tall glass cylinder vases filled with white spirea accented with white delphinium and white larkspur. Long tables were anchored with white flower boxes, from which flowed a textured garden mix of white astilbe, campanula, hydrangea, lisianthus, Queen Anne’s lace, snapdragons, stock, and waxflower accented with bells of Ireland, lady’s mantle, trachelium, and Italian ruscus foliage. The final third featured clusters of blue-and-white white chinoiserie vases, each displaying an eclectic mix of green and white flowers.

Florist: Petal’s Edge Floral Design

It’s been a very long time since floral centerpieces were just flowers in a vase. Today’s centerpieces have multiple elements, loads of candles, things that have to be assembled and even built on-site. And yet the presumption persists that the florist is just going to show up with a box that can be left in the corner for someone else to place on the table.

Putting aside the fact that we take far more pride in our work than that… to say that we value logistics and planning is an understatement!! And logistics are truly our skill set. We can tell you how many man hours a particular installation will take and can design for efficiency. It’s truly our super power.

Most floral design relies on other things being in place. Not useful? “You can get into the room at this time.” Actually useful? “The bar you’re building that cascading piece on will in place no later than X o’clock.” But more than that? Start realizing that event demands are not what they used to be.

The Crystal Room is always a lot of look. Those green marble columns, the chandeliers... and yet it`s so quintessentially DC! There`s something about that room that makes pink feel completely at home.⁣
⁣
It took us straight back to Sophia & Daniel`s wedding ceremony in the same space. Pink baby`s breath, roses, the whole thing. Two totally different events, same magic. Pink and the Crystal Room? We`re convinced it`s a love story. 💚🌸⁣

Meridian House is one of those venues that makes people fall in love the second they see it. The gardens, the historic rooms, the feeling that you`ve stumbled onto this beautiful hidden place in the middle of Washington. It is such a privilege to design there.⁣
⁣
For Erica & Matt, the goal was to keep the flowers feeling like an eloquent dinner party. We filled the tables with hydrangea, stock, roses and spray roses, and lisianthus and lots and lots of candles so the rooms felt alive and welcoming the moment guests walked in. I remember stepping back once everything was set and thinking how light the whole space felt — like spring had simply decided to move inside for the evening.⁣

And when Erica & Matt walked in and saw the room for the first time? The smiles said everything.⁣
