Historic Virginia Wedding

What do you get when you choose not one but TWO historic Virginia wedding venues for your nuptials? Well, lots of fabulous southern charm for starters, we’d say! Sarah and Sean celebrated their union with an outdoor ceremony at Gunston Hall, the former home of founding father George Mason, followed by dinner at Mount Vernon Inn, on the grounds of George Washington’s estate.

Two large wine barrels with lush urns designs in classic whites and greens framed the ceremony, the manor house in the background. Flanked on each side by the wedding party, the ceremony felt classic, romantic, and timeless – just the look our couple described when we met. One thing is for sure, we could use more magnolia-lined pathways in our life!

Following the picturesque ceremony at Gunston Hall, a portraits on the property, the wedding progressed to a reception at Mount Vernon Inn – just perfect for a historic Virginia wedding! Intimate long tables were set up in the Veranda Room, with wreaths of flowers surrounding lanterns. As an elegant finishing touch, a sprig of ruscus foliage greeted guests at each place setting. Together with the pineapple place setting holders, it was a true southern welcome.

In a city known for grand beaux arts mansions and classic ballroom weddings, there’s something so refreshing about the industrial architecture of Ritz-Carlton Georgetown.⁣
The exposed brick, steel details, and warm textures create a completely different kind of romance. It feels moodier, more intimate, and unexpectedly modern while still feeling unmistakably DC.⁣

We love the design opportunities a venue like this presents. Soft, garden inspired flowers against raw architectural elements will always be one of our favorite contrasts.⁣

Plastic wrap.

Floral design is equal parts beauty, engineering, and MacGyvering. Making it pretty is one thing. Figuring out how to transport it safely is a whole other skill.

A moongate arch dressed in nothing but lush greenery - lemon leaf, ruscus, eucalyptus - and that was just the beginning. 🌿 Sometimes the most stunning designs are the ones that let the natural beauty do the talking. This bouquet lives rent free in my head, but not for the reason you think.⁣

Our bride, Ana, had chosen stunning fuchsia cattleya orchids for her bouquet, so, as we always do, we ordered them well in advance. When our flowers arrived, I opened the box to find... white cattleya orchids. Beautiful, but not what our bride wanted. We immediately called our wholesaler and arranged for another shipment.⁣

Two days later, I opened the second box. White orchids. Again.⁣
⁣
This is the kind of moment that tries a florist`s soul.⁣
⁣
We arranged for a third shipment to arrive Saturday morning while preparing backup plans we hoped we`d never need. We debated telling Ana what was happening, but ultimately decided our job wasn`t to hand her our problem. Our job was to solve it.⁣
⁣
The correct orchids arrived Saturday morning. Ana walked down the aisle carrying the bouquet she`d dreamed of. She never knew any of this had happened.⁣
⁣
The flowers are only part of what you`re hiring when you chose a florist. You`re also hiring someone who will fight for your vision. Who will MacGyver like their life depends on it. Because substitutions aren`t made casually; they`re made only after every reasonable option has been exhausted.⁣
⁣
There`s an ethical dilemma at the heart of this story. As the bride, would you have wanted to know? As the florist, what would you have done?⁣
