You’ve likely heard of Congressional Country Club for its golf activities, and in fact, Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD has been home to five major golf championships, including three US Opens and a PGA championship among other noteworthy events. It is considered one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the world. It is also a stunning wedding venue.

A wedding at Congressional Country Club is always one of our favorites! Driving up, the clubhouse architecture is simply magnificent and reminiscent of a Spanish colonial style. The grand ballroom features soaring ceilings and unparalleled architectural detail.

History

The club was founded in 1921 by two congressmen, and the club has played host to many elected officials and presidents in its history. The expansive clubhouse is one of the largest in the United States, and was designed by architect Philip Julian.

Pro Tips

With its soaring ceiling, the ballroom at Congressional Country Club allows for height in your design. Whether you opt for a mix of tall and low centerpieces, a striking elevated head table design, or a band front that wows, find some element to focus your guests attention that matches the grandeur of the space. The fireplace mantels are a great way of bridging that space, whether with simple candles or a dramatic display that draws the eyes up.

Style-wise, the space at Congressional allows for varying design styles. The grandeur of the space lends itself to classic elements, but the impressive beams allow you to be more loose and unstructured, even rustic in design.

Did you know that baby’s breath can be a showstopper all on its own? 🌟

At Meaghan & David’s Willard Hotel wedding, we used this delicate bloom to create everything from airy, elevated centerpieces to rings of the tiny flowers to circle candles and lush runners on the head table. The result? A look that’s both ethereal and elegant, proving that baby’s breath can be more than just a filler flower. It’s a versatile, often budget-friendly option that brings a soft, romantic vibe to any wedding. Who’s ready to fall in love with this understated beauty? 😍

Moody palettes don’t have to wait for October. For Alexandra & Sam’s spring wedding at St. Francis Hall, we built the design on deep burgundy roses, moody mauves and deep plum fritillaria, the last a flower uniquely available in early spring. To keep the look from tipping too dark, we layered in Sahara Sensation spray roses, peach stock, and quince branches for lightness and movement. Loose and airy aisle pieces added whimsy, while a deconstructed arch and gold-rimmed candles brought romance. The result was dramatic without ever feeling heavy. Romantic, fresh, and unmistakably spring.
