Venue Spotlight: Capitol View at 400

It’s Thursday, so you know what that means. Time for another venue spotlight from Petal’s Edge! Today we’re all about the view. Washington, DC has some of the best rooftop venues views (in our humble opinion!), and it’s definitely ALL about the view at Capitol View at 400. It even says so in the name! This unique site is located 400 – 444 North Capitol St., NW and held one of our very first weddings when things started opening up during covid.

About

Sky is the limit! Capitol View at 400 offers easy views of the Capitol, Union Station and the Washington Monument. The distinctive rooftop venue features a retractable canopy, heating and air conditioning for year-round use, and even a ship’s binnacle! Stainless steel and glass railings allow for an unobstructed view. IPAY decking, which encompasses the whole rooftop, lends a nautical feel to the space. The lower terrace which can be used for ceremonies, cocktails, and even additional seating. The bars and lighting offered by the venue are a perfect start to any event design. And as we saw during the early part of the pandemic, with two levels, this versatile venue offers maximum flexibility.

Location: Capitol Hill in Washington, DC

Capacity:

Upper terrace – 200 guests seated, 300 for cocktails

Lower terrace – 300 guests

Pro Tips:

This is a place you can easily dress up or dress down. Want a modern feel? Keep it clean and crisp with bold pops of color. Favor something more unstructured and gardenesque? There are many opportunities to bring the outdoors to the roof! For ceremonies on the lower terrace, consider adding a boxwood or floral backdrop as a focal point behind your altar arrangements or chuppah. We love to see lots of lighting at this venue, specifically string lights across the ceiling of the tent. Take it to the next level by adding draping touches of smilax to the ceiling and perimeter. Extend that aesthetic by adding greenery or candles to the railing along the walkway. A mix of tall and low designs make surprising impact in the space. The two levels allow you to create lounge seating areas to enhance mingling and your guests’ comfort.

MOODY ROMANCE ✨ Daryn & Kelsey’s wedding last weekend was the definition of moody romance. A room glowing in candlelight, black linens setting the stage for elevated greenery hedges kissed 💋 with baby’s breath and dreamy hanging glass globes cradling flickering votives. Black and deep plum tapers paired with glass chimneys added a touch of drama, while the sweetheart table gave our couple the place of honor, accented with lush greenery and flowers in soft mauve and blush.

Every detail felt like it was straight out of a modern fairytale. 🖤 🤍 ✨ What’s your favorite part of this stunning set up?

Forget snowflakes and pine cones… when a holiday party calls for a tropical escape, we deliver! ✨ 💃🏻

We brought a “Holiday in Havana” vibe to @dirtyhabitdc with a dramatic ceiling installation of tropical leaves and rattan lanterns, adorable ornamental pineapples in cocktail centerpieces, bougainvillea and smilax foliage flourishing on wrought iron, and spectacular designs of colocasia foliage at the bar.

Who says holiday parties can’t sizzle with summer vibes? 🌟
