Winery-Inspired St Francis Hall Wedding

We must confess. We fall in love with our couples as much as we do with the designs we work together to create with them. Sasha had a grand, winery-inspired St Francis Hall wedding – modern and elegant, classic to the core, with rustic winery-inspired touches throughout. Blending those elements proved stunning. Love, love, LOVE! Sasha’s bouquet featured the simple and clean modern lines of burgundy cymbidium orchids, eggplant mini-calla lilies, and ivory roses finished with curly willow branches vining lightly around the perimeter of the bouquet for a rustic touch to evoke the feel of a winery. Burgundy cymbidium orchids graced her hair. The bridesmaids carried lush bouquets of ivory and pale pink roses, burgundy cymbidiums, and burgundy mini-calla lilies finished with earthy touches of scabiosa pods and seeded eucalyptus.

The ceremony took place at Holy Comforter Church. We love how gleefully happy they look. As guests arrived at the winery-inspired St Francis Hall wedding, they were greeted with an elegant, handblown glass vase filled with wine corks! You would not believe how many wine corks there were! (Special thanks to Fibre Space who put us in touch with La Fromagerie. It’s great to have friends in our Old Town business community.) The vase was topped with a dramatic design of red antique hydrangea, red orchids, Black Magic and Quicksand roses, and burgundy spray roses finished with burgundy hanging amaranthus and seeded eucalyptus foliage. The reception alternated between elegant tall and low designs in rich shades of wine and champagne.

Tall designs were elevated on an elegant, old world-styled cathedral candlestick, each holding classic designs of hydrangea, roses, spray roses finished with burgundy hanging amaranthus and seeded eucalyptus, the hues alternating between deep rich burgundies and champagnes – fitting for a winery-inspired St Francis Hall Wedding. A small, wooden wine crates held the low designs, each arrangement featuring roses, hydrangea, dahlia, callas, and spray roses finished with rustic accents of kiwi vine. A dramatic cascade of wedding flowers proceeded down one side of the cake.

It’s been a very long time since floral centerpieces were just flowers in a vase. Today’s centerpieces have multiple elements, loads of candles, things that have to be assembled and even built on-site. And yet the presumption persists that the florist is just going to show up with a box that can be left in the corner for someone else to place on the table.

Putting aside the fact that we take far more pride in our work than that… to say that we value logistics and planning is an understatement!! And logistics are truly our skill set. We can tell you how many man hours a particular installation will take and can design for efficiency. It’s truly our super power.

Most floral design relies on other things being in place. Not useful? “You can get into the room at this time.” Actually useful? “The bar you’re building that cascading piece on will in place no later than X o’clock.” But more than that? Start realizing that event demands are not what they used to be.

The Crystal Room is always a lot of look. Those green marble columns, the chandeliers... and yet it`s so quintessentially DC! There`s something about that room that makes pink feel completely at home.⁣
⁣
It took us straight back to Sophia & Daniel`s wedding ceremony in the same space. Pink baby`s breath, roses, the whole thing. Two totally different events, same magic. Pink and the Crystal Room? We`re convinced it`s a love story. 💚🌸⁣

And I couldn’t have said it better myself. Because when flowers are doing their job, they don’t just fill a space. They create a moment you can feel.

Meridian House is one of those venues that makes people fall in love the second they see it. The gardens, the historic rooms, the feeling that you`ve stumbled onto this beautiful hidden place in the middle of Washington. It is such a privilege to design there.⁣
⁣
For Erica & Matt, the goal was to keep the flowers feeling like an eloquent dinner party. We filled the tables with hydrangea, stock, roses and spray roses, and lisianthus and lots and lots of candles so the rooms felt alive and welcoming the moment guests walked in. I remember stepping back once everything was set and thinking how light the whole space felt — like spring had simply decided to move inside for the evening.⁣

And when Erica & Matt walked in and saw the room for the first time? The smiles said everything.⁣
