In 2020 and then in 2021, we produced two beautiful weddings for a couple who made the best use of Covid’s challenges we’ve seen by having an intimate wedding for their immediate circle, followed by a grand celebration the next year. Well never say “always a bridesmaid” – because we are proud to call Katie “one of our own”!
In the heart of Washington DC, the Hotel Monaco transformed into a canvas of late summer colors for a wedding that was nothing short of spectacular. The unique charm of Katie and Peter’s was not just in its vibrant palette of oranges, corals, burgundies, and yellows but also in its creative use of wearable flowers, a trend that’s taking the wedding world by storm.
Katie took the concept of wearable flowers to a new level. Beyond her lush, dahlia-filled bouquet, she adorned herself with a stunning “floral tattoo.” This intricate work of art, crafted from dahlias, coxcomb, butterfly bush, and strawflowers, gracefully cascaded down her arm and across part of her back, creating a mesmerizing effect to her wedding day attire.
In preparation for the wedding, guests were asked to send yarn in various colors to create a blanket, symbolizing the coming together of friends and family in this beautiful union. The project was a testament to the couple’s dedication to personalization and creativity. When Katie inquired if we would be able to use this for the chuppah for the wedding, without hesitation, we said “Absolutely!” Using an armature we designed, we suspended the custom chuppah canopy from the elegant columns in the rotunda.
Katie’s favorite flower, the sunflower, made a prominent appearance at the escort card table. Its bright and cheerful presence set the tone for the evening, radiating joy and warmth. The tables themselves were a spectacle, filled with an expressive assortment of summer flowers that seemed to dance in the candlelight.
Katie and Peter’s wedding at the Hotel Monaco was more than just a celebration; it was a vibrant festival of colors and emotions. The blend of traditional elegance with modern, personalized elements like wearable flowers and the yarn-woven chuppah canopy showcased the couple’s unique style and set this event apart.
In every corner of the Hotel Monaco, from the floral tattoo to the sunflower-adorned tables, this wedding was a breathtaking ode to the beauty of late summer, a perfect harmony of nature’s palette and human creativity.
