Vintage Wedding at DAR

Vintage Wedding at DAR

Putting a twist on the traditional is always great fun when working with flowers. And that is exactly what you’ll find with Kathy and Jim’s vintage wedding at DAR! While Kathy’s bridal bouquet might at first glance make classic use of peonies, roses, ranunculus and stock in whites and creams, it was finished with quirky accents like green echeveria, poppy seed pods, seeded eucalyptus and dusty miller for a hint of soft gray. The bridesmaids’ bouquet took a rustic turn, each woman carrying a simple design of baby’s breath wrapped in burlap and twine. The boutonnieres were fashioned from baby’s breath as well, with the groom’s boutonniere remaining more classic with a white lisianthus blossom accented with a poppy seed pod and gray dusty miller.

The vintage vedding at DAR ceremony took place in the corner of the portico with the Washington Monument in the background. Flanking the couple, two topiaries atop birch poles were filled with white and champagne garden flowers accented with elegant greens like boxwood, lemon leaf, jasmine vine, seeded eucalyptus, and dusty miller. The urns were filled with greenery and moss, spilling casually over the edge.

A bed of baby’s breath created a rustic surface on which the escort cards (and later the favor boxes) were placed. Blending vintage with organic for this DAR wedding, an array of milk glass containers were used both on the dinner tables as well as the fireplace mantle. Classic ivory, cream and champagne flowers such as hydrangea, roses, stock, ranunculus, and lisianthus were accented with green echeveria, dusty miller, and poppy seed pods.

It’s Bike to Work Day — and while we usually pedal toward petals, we couldn’t resist sharing this creative twist from Elle & Bryan, one of our couples who wheeled their love of cycling straight into the ceremony. 🚲✨

Elle & Bryan’s wedding at Dumbarton House was full of charm, personal touches, and one especially fun nod to their love of cycling. Bicycle wheels became sculptural backdrops, proving that when it comes to personal touches, there’s no such thing as too niche.

Designing florals around unexpected objects? That’s our lane. And yes — it was all uphill in the best possible way.

A night of mystery and masquerade — and the perfect way to fête the 10th anniversary of The Scout Guide Alexandria and the launch of Vol. 10! ✨

We loved adding our signature touch of floral drama to this year’s launch party at the Hotel Heron. From a moody and dramatic entrance piece to a flower-filled car, sculptural arrangements on cocktail tables and elevated bar arrangements casting feathered shadows and moody textures, this event let us play in a world of whimsy and wonder.

We’re proud to be part of a guide that champions small businesses and celebrates creativity in our community. Supporting local means investing in the makers, doers, and dreamers who make Alexandria vibrant — and The Scout Guide does just that, beautifully. Cheers to Vol. 10! Special thanks to Sarah and Claire for always being so supportive and encouraging.
