While some people are aware that nestled in Chevy Chase, Maryland is nature sanctuary run by the Audubon Naturalist Society, many aren’t aware that Woodend’s building was designed by architect John Russell Pope, also known for designing the National Gallery of Art. The venue’s aesthetic at once embraces its natural surroundings as well as the classical history and architecture. It’s no wonder then that we do as many weddings here that take rustic decor as classic, vintage design.
Michelle and Nick favored the latter. For their vintage garden Woodend wedding, the couple a loose, almost rustic style in shades of soft peaches, pinks and ivories with accents of silvery grey and brown. Michelle’s bouquet featured peach Juliet garden roses, Cafe Au Lait dahlias, lisianthus, stock, spray roses and Queen Anne’s lace accented with scabiosa pods, seeded eucalyptus and dusty miller. The bridesmaids carried similar, but simpler, bouquets, accented with touches of fresh herbs and jasmine vine.
Woodend Sanctuary, with its roaming deer and wooded grove for ceremonies, is always the perfect venue for rustic or vintage garden wedding aesthetic. Accents like birch bark and wildflowers feel right at home in the forest glade that surrounds and conceals the venue. For the table centerpieces, lush arrangements similar to the bridal bouquet were built in birch bark pots. Seeded eucalyptus, dusty miller and Queen Anne’s lace added the perfect amount of looseness to the arrangements of dahlias, roses, stock, lisianthus, spray roses and hydrangea in shades of peach, white and pink.
