Located in Old Town Alexandria, the Torpedo Factory Art Center is the ideal space for an art loving couple who loves an industrial vibe. It’s conveniently located near a few hotels for your out of town guests, and has so much unique charm. We just adore Torpedo Factory weddings at this local treasure! A former munitions plant, the site was transformed in 1974 into a collection of publicly accessible working artist studios and is a highlight in Alexandria on the Potomac River waterfront. It is a uniquely industrial space that is also filled with art.
Ceremony set up for Torpedo Factory weddings stump many of our couples, in part because while the art work is a draw, the staircase features a series of sculptural pieces that are not everyone’s style… The options though abound! Choose an arch, two arrangements flanking, or even candelabra. Go traditional, go modern. It’s a more versatile space than you think. We have even staged a wedding in-the-round beneath a suspend orb of roses! And if you really, really can’t find a way to love the staircase, just go ahead and get pipe and drape to hide it.
Pro Tip: A common element of concern for couples hosting their ceremony at the Torpedo Factory is the artwork on the staircase. Many options about from completely obscuring it with pipe and drape or floral and greenery walls to embracing it. Let us dream up a solution for you!
The long, narrow space may seem limiting but there are many seating and centerpiece options for the reception. We have had couples opt for tall, low and a mix of tall and low centerpieces as well as use round tables, square tables, and even long rectangle tables!
Pro tip: While often the escort card and gift tables are placed on the sides of the entry way, a large round table in the center of the two wings makes for a dramatic and striking entry piece!
Pro tip: The space just begs for lighting. Look at the photos above at how it transforms the space.
