Fall may be the most popular time of year for weddings in DC, but spring really has to be the best time when it comes to flowers. While all the small blooms are a world apart on their own – ranunculus, anemone, sweet pea and lilac to name a few – it’s the blooming branches that really capture the wonderment of spring. Olivia and Matt’s spring Meridian House wedding featured every bit of that seasonal wonder in the flowers.
Olivia carried a stunning bouquet of white sweet pea, lilac, mini-calla lilies, ranunculus and anemone accented with camellia foliage. Her bridesmaids carry simpler version of the bridal bouquet, in keeping with the white, green and black scheme. A blue rosary was wrapped around the bouquet’s handle. The effect was elegant and classic. We especially loved how this wedding embraced the beauty of the house in its choices for decor. As guests entered, a lush wreath of green camellia and olive leaf accented with white flowers – the olive for Olivia – hung from the center of the grand, wrought iron banister.
As guests ascended the stairs, they were greeted at the top by an expressive design of white cherry blossom branches in a dramatic, handblown glass vase. In particular, Olivia and Matthew spring Meridian House wedding favored a more natural look, where the delicate blossoms didn’t completely obscure the feel of the branches. A bowl of white hyacinth blossoms and ivory spray roses provided each guest a flower they might pin to their lapel.
March is still quite cold in DC, and so the ceremony took place in the loggia. Wrought iron stands held pillar candles, and the four columns in the loggia were topped with tall arrangements of white cherry blossom branches, creating an intimate sphere for the ceremony. Tall and low vases alternated on the tables in the reception space, with candles on all of the tables. White and pink cherry blossom branches soared, with glass globes hung from the branches providing a romantic twinkle of light. Stemmed votives with floating candles were positioned at the base. A mix of floating and pillar candles on the remaining tables accented the spring mix of white and green.
