Last year, Katherine and Heng hosted a springtime cherry blossom wedding at St. Francis Hall. And, of course, since early April is peak season for Washington, DC’s iconic cherry blossoms, the big day was filled with soft pink blooms.
While the life span of cherry blossoms is short, they make for a memorable wedding motif. For Katherine’s bouquet, the combination of large and small blooms – peonies, ranunculus, and sweet pea – gave the bouquet dimension. While branches themselves can be unwieldy, the blooms complemented the cherry blossom wedding.
The couple married inside St. Francis Hall’s great room. Gold chiavari chairs were used for ceremony seating and large glass garnier vases filled with cherry blossom branches lined the entrance to the aisle, as if announcing cherry blossom season had begun. Dramatic displays of cherry blossom branches flanked the couple on the stage for the ceremony.
The ballroom was reset from ceremony to reception. The reception tables maintained an information feel, allowing the cherry blossom branches to emulate the feel of a natural grove for the reception. Low centerpieces echoed the bouquet in color and featuring garden blooms and wisps of curly willow branches were a counterpoint to the formality and expansiveness of the venue. Taper candles twinkled from the sweetheart table. Small elevated pillar candles surrounded the low centerpieces, and glass globes were suspended from the cherry blossom branches for an ethereal feel.
Thank you Katherine and Heng for entrusting us with your wedding! We wish you many years of happiness.
