Celebrating Same Sex Weddings

Celebrating Same Sex Weddings

Brides share kiss on steps of Daughters of the American Revolution on wedding day
Weddings celebrate the love and commitment two people have for each other – today and for the rest of their lives, and same sex weddings are no different. At Petal’s Edge we love weddings of all varieties – and this goes for the couples themselves as well. In honor of June being National Pride Month, we wanted to share inspiration from some of our favorite ceremonies and receptions for same sex weddings.
The wedding decor and details are filled with inspiration for a number of wedding styles, and represent the personality and taste of each couple. In addition to sharing the love these couples each have for each other, these same sex weddings offer ideas for creating personally meaningful details that can be useful for engaged couples regardless of their sexual orientation. From stunning ceremonies to gorgeous receptions, these same sex weddings added special details that wowed their guests. Enjoy the five events below!
French Market-Inspired Wedding

As a same sex couple, Eric and David wanted to keep the look for their wedding more masculine. In describing their desire to use something other than flowers for the centerpieces, they painted a picture of a tablescape that reminded them of a European picnic spread using fruits and vegetables instead of flowers. Their description evoked a French farmer’s market – visions of breadsticks, assorted fresh produce, pickles and cheese, a bottle of wine. What an amazing wedding tablescape inspiration!

Magical Harry Potter Themed Wedding

Aja and Alexis met in Oakland, CA and it was Hollywood movie perfect. And like any Hollywood romance, their relationship was punctuated by times they were apart and then together again, drawn by chemistry. In planning their wedding, it was designed as not only a celebration of their journey together but an homage to their favorite book series: Harry Potter.

Classic Wedding at DAR

The color scheme of classic whites and greens with hints of light pink were selected for Kristi and Robyn’s big day, which featured a soft, romantic look desired by the couple.

Super heroes in Flight

Dominic and Daniel – known to most in the wedding industry as simply Dom – celebrated their wedding at the Ritz Carlton Georgetown. The pair organized a wedding that featured personalized elements that reflected their unique interests – Dom’s love for planes and Daniel’s for comic books.

New Year’s Eve Wedding

What can be more festive than a New Year’s Eve wedding celebration? Ilana and Sarah imagined nothing less that starting their new life together at the stroke of midnight.

We are back at Woodend this coming week, and it has us reminiscing about Amanda and Jack’s whimsical, wonderful, William Morris-inspired dream of a wedding with an Art Nouveau twist. The wedding layered bohemian textures, vintage details, woodland creatures and, of course, romantic blooms into a palette that felt both grounded and poetic. Think climbing vines, golden light, and flowers that felt like they had stepped out of an heirloom wallpaper print - in the best way. We’re still swooning. 💫

A rooftop celebration that proves timeless can still be bold. For Elaine & Trey’s wedding at Capitol View at 400, we leaned into classic green and white, but elevated it with sculptural greenery installations, gold Harlow stands, and skyline views that stretched for miles. A ceiling of foliage softened the tented space, while sleek black bridesmaid dresses added contrast and edge. Clean, refined, and impossibly romantic.
