Pride Month Inspiration

First and foremost, weddings are occasions to celebrate the love that two people have for each other and the commitment they want to make, notably in front of their nearest and dearest. The décor and details are wonderful accents meant to represent the personality and tastes of the marrying pair. We love nuptials of all shapes, sizes, and varieties – and this goes for couples themselves as well. In honor of June being National Pride Month, we wanted to share some same sex wedding inspiration. Each wedding is a unique as the couples themselves. From intimate events to grand parties, these same sex couples each designed elements that reflected their personalities. Enjoy the three events below!

Forest-Inspired Wedding

A soothing palette of greens served as the grounding backdrop of Mitch and Patrick’s nuptials. Woodend provided an apt setting for their forest-inspired wedding, which embraced the best of autumn with rich reds, yellows and oranges with maidenhair fern.

Romantic Blush and Burgundy at Hummingbird

On a bright February day, Taylor and Melia recited their vows at an intimate wedding at Hummingbird Restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. Their floral palette feature a romantic mix of feather light pink and burgundy astilbe, blush roses, white stock, and burgundy ranunculus finished with soft touches of eucalyptus foliage. An elegant napkin detail of ruscus foliage finished the each place setting at the reception.

Modern Blue at Westin Georgetown

We love a wedding with modern sensibilities and clean lines, and Aaron and JaRel’s wedding at the Westin Georgetown was just that. From the stylish attire to the modern blue wedding reception, the wedding radiated a masculine glamour.

In discussing final changes, one of our couples had a note of hesitation in her voice, worried her palette might set a different mood than intended. Not seasonal enough? Too austere?

But here’s the thing: mood can be a matter of perspective. Which brings us to this wedding: once upon a time, orange was typecast as a strictly fall color. But flowers don’t follow rules. They bloom wildly, confidently, year-round! There are orange flowers in every season and in recent years, we’ve seen orange blooms show up to spring weddings, as warm oranges at summer soirées, and of course they’re still the favored guest at autumn affairs. Each time, the hue brings something fresh. Joy. Energy. That just-right edge.

Your color story should feel like you. In fact, for Olivia & David’s wedding, our bride’s mother shared that the color palette had been the one in her daughter’s childhood bedroom. A vibrant floral story that she had been living with all along. That’s what flowers can do. Pull memories forward, stitch generations together and turn a wedding into something deeply personal. And if it happens to challenge a few outdated ideas? Even better. 😉

It turns out, we can use flowers to speak to our clients` vision, and it`s something we`ve figured out simply by listening. We take simple cues and sometimes vague descriptions, turning them into a clear direction that reflects each couple’s individual nuances and personality.

Ten years is a wild thing to look back on! And 20 photos is hardly enough. Scrolling through 2016 feels like opening a time capsule of big ideas, brave design choices, and most of all, couples who trusted us with moments that still matter. That year was packed. New venues. A blizzard. We ordered more dusty miller than we thought could safely exist in the world, and greenery was having a moment. Features landed because the work spoke for itself. We saw our flowers in print, on glossy pages people actually saved, and across platforms that shaped the wedding world at the time.

Our rebrand had already happened a couple years prior, during our tenth anniversary, so 2016 was about momentum: refining who we were, deepening relationships, and building a body of work that still feels like us.

The way we share has changed, but the heart of it hasn’t. Great clients. Thoughtful design. And stories that age beautifully. 💐
