Classic Omni Shoreham Wedding

The Omni Shoreham Hotel is such a gem in Washington. Overlooking Rock Creek Park, the hotel boasts not only a grand interior, but the gardens are a stunning oasis of flowering gardens and a gazebo that overlooks the wooded park. Laura and Ben’s wedding at the Omni early May wedding featured a classic palette of whites alternated with rich shades of purple and blue. Laura’s bouquet for her classic Omni Shoreham wedding featured a spring mix of white lilac, peonies, ranunculus and anemone, while her groom sported a matching boutonniere of white ranunculus.

Last minute threats of rain forced the ceremony indoors into the Ambassador Ballroom, but the festivity was not compromised in the least. Laura and Ben were married beneath a garden-inspired chuppah featuring an overlay of curly willow branches tucked with purple larkspur, lavender roses and stock, and touches of light blue delphinium. Purple lilac draping from the top creating the feel of wisteria vines. Despite moving indoors, the ceremony retained every feel of a classic Omni Shoreham wedding ceremony. Clutches of lavender stock, roses, and lisianthus finished with an ivory ribbon bow were attached to the chairs along the aisle.

Cocktails in the Palladian Room preceded the reception in the Empire Ballroom. For the escort card table, a silver urn was centered atop a patterns gray linen and filled with a design of purple and lavender larkspur and stock accented with light blue delphinium.

Atop gray linens, round tables featured a glass footed bowl with a rich, garden arrangement of white hydrangea purple stock, ivory roses, and plum ranunculus accented with lavender and purple sweet pea and tulips. Cylinder vases with floating candles completed the design. For the longer rectangle tables, a rich garden design of white hydrangea, stock, roses and ranunculus accented with lavender sweet pea filled a mix of glassware, including glass rectangle vases of varying heights and small compote bowls extended along the length of the table. Stemmed votives with floating candles added a romantic touch of candlelight. The classic Omni Shoreham wedding was impeccable from start to finish.

It’s been a very long time since floral centerpieces were just flowers in a vase. Today’s centerpieces have multiple elements, loads of candles, things that have to be assembled and even built on-site. And yet the presumption persists that the florist is just going to show up with a box that can be left in the corner for someone else to place on the table.

Putting aside the fact that we take far more pride in our work than that… to say that we value logistics and planning is an understatement!! And logistics are truly our skill set. We can tell you how many man hours a particular installation will take and can design for efficiency. It’s truly our super power.

Most floral design relies on other things being in place. Not useful? “You can get into the room at this time.” Actually useful? “The bar you’re building that cascading piece on will in place no later than X o’clock.” But more than that? Start realizing that event demands are not what they used to be.

⁣
It took us straight back to Sophia & Daniel`s wedding ceremony in the same space. Pink baby`s breath, roses, the whole thing. Two totally different events, same magic. Pink and the Crystal Room? We`re convinced it`s a love story. 💚🌸⁣

Meridian House is one of those venues that makes people fall in love the second they see it. The gardens, the historic rooms, the feeling that you`ve stumbled onto this beautiful hidden place in the middle of Washington. It is such a privilege to design there.⁣
⁣
For Erica & Matt, the goal was to keep the flowers feeling like an eloquent dinner party. We filled the tables with hydrangea, stock, roses and spray roses, and lisianthus and lots and lots of candles so the rooms felt alive and welcoming the moment guests walked in. I remember stepping back once everything was set and thinking how light the whole space felt — like spring had simply decided to move inside for the evening.⁣

And when Erica & Matt walked in and saw the room for the first time? The smiles said everything.⁣
