Venue Spotlight: National Museum of Women in the Arts

National Museum of Women in the Arts wedding

A wedding at the National Museum of Women in the Arts is a level of elegance like no other. Located at 13th Street and New York Avenue, NW, the grand architecture of this Washington landmark creates an unforgettable atmosphere for a wedding, both ceremony and reception alike. While there are many museums in the DC area. there are not many that are open for weddings, especially now that the Corcoran Gallery of Art has shuttered its doors. The marble balustrades and stunning chandeliers set the tone for a fete. Depending on the size of your wedding, dining can take place in the main atrium, the mezzanine level or both. Guests can sip cocktails in the third floor galleries while perusing art work. We have a particular sweet spot for this venue, as Gerry used to work in art museums before starting Petal’s Edge!

Tips:

The venue has so many stunning features, and the key is to highlight them. For any National Museum of Women in the Arts wedding, a statement piece at the 13th and New York Avenue entrance is a must! It is often the first things guests see, whether upon arrival for the ceremony or after descending from the third floor for the reception. Often where escort cards are placed, your guests will feel absolutely welcomed. The guest tables look great with a mix of tall and low designs, but if you want to keep the atmosphere intimate, opt for long rectangular tables with some lush floral garlands! Having a head table on the mezzanine? Think about a grand kings table but with low floral arrangements so as to not obscure the dramatic chandelier.

We are back at Woodend this coming week, and it has us reminiscing about Amanda and Jack’s whimsical, wonderful, William Morris-inspired dream of a wedding with an Art Nouveau twist. The wedding layered bohemian textures, vintage details, woodland creatures and, of course, romantic blooms into a palette that felt both grounded and poetic. Think climbing vines, golden light, and flowers that felt like they had stepped out of an heirloom wallpaper print - in the best way. We’re still swooning. 💫

A rooftop celebration that proves timeless can still be bold. For Elaine & Trey’s wedding at Capitol View at 400, we leaned into classic green and white, but elevated it with sculptural greenery installations, gold Harlow stands, and skyline views that stretched for miles. A ceiling of foliage softened the tented space, while sleek black bridesmaid dresses added contrast and edge. Clean, refined, and impossibly romantic.
