It’s no secret that we have a soft spot for winter weddings, and that’s especially true of a National Museum of Women in the Arts wedding in DC. Fur, feather, branches, wintry evergreens, delicate white flowers, rustic, modern, romantic – take your pick, winter weddings provide so many opportunities to play with unique elements. This was definitely the case with Tara and Kevin’s stunner of a classic winter scheme at the National Museum of Women in the Arts wedding in DC. Tara carried a bouquet of white and ivory garden roses, stock, ranunculus, anemone, and fringe tulips accented with wintry touches of silver brunea pods and dusty miller, seeded eucalyptus greens, and fiddlehead ferns. Fiddleheads and the dark centers of the anemone created the perfect contrast to the whites and greens of the bouquet. The groom’s boutonniere matched the bride’s flowers, using a white ranunculus blossom accented with soft gray dusty miller leaves and brunea pods. The bridesmaids, each in gowns of varying shades of gray, carried roses, spray roses, ranunculus, stock, and tulips accented with tiny frosted pinecones and dusty miller. In the same style as the bridesmaids’ bouquets, the flower girl’s white wicker basket was with filled with a sweet mix of roses, dusty miller, eucalyptus and small pinecones.
As guests entered the venue for the classic winter museum wedding reception, they were greeted with a dramatic, wintry design of curly willow and silver birch branches, white dendrobium orchids, and larkspur in an elegant, glass trumpet vase. For an added wintry touch, orchids were intertwined amidst the uppermost tips of the branches. The reception tables conveyed an aesthetic that was at once rustic, romantic and modern, all looking right at home within the grandeur of the Museum. The tables featured a mix of two designs: Half featured a birch container with a richly textured arrangement of hydrangea, stock, roses, ranunculus, tulips, anemone, brunea pods, dusty miller, fiddlehead fern, and juniper and seeded eucalyptus greens. For a rustic yet modern touch, curls of birch bark were incorporated into the design. For the balance, we worked in collaboration with the bride’s close friend and designer Glenn Sokoli. Fashioning small arrangements of winter evergreens, white flowers and silver foliage elements, the clutches of flowers accented the modern lamps that were centered on the other half of the tables. And lastly, the cake was accented with a festive design of wedding flowers on the top and on each of the tiers, finishing the wintry scape of the wedding.
