Rachel and Jake’s modern winter wedding took place at one of our favorite Washington, DC venues – the Carnegie Institute of Science. Rachel’s vision was for a warm winter wedding that used not only the traditional wintery hues but also introduced warmer cream and champagne tones and natural elements like branches, berries and succulents.
Rachel carried a bouquet of white peonies, iris, ranunculus, champagne “Quicksand” roses, and cream stock, while her bridesmaids’ bouquets added gray-hued dusty miller and blue-black privet berries to the mix. Boutonnieres for the men included “Camel” roses accented with blue-black privet berries.
The chuppah for the ceremony, which took place in the stately rotunda, was constructed from elegant birch poles seated in classic urns filled with seeded eucalyptus and dusty miller. Following the ceremony, an elegant design of white flowers in three branch-wrapped cylinder vases helped point guests to the escort card table. Each vase held simple and modern arrangements of white orchids, roses, and iris.
The reception featured a mix of tall and low arrangements, blending a mix of drama, candlelight, and intimacy. Half the tables featured an organic tablescape of curly willow branches vining around a cluster of three glass cylinder vases. The branches were accented with gray-green succulents, air plants, white ranunculus, champagne roses, and white iris.
The balance of the tables held a tall glass s trumpet vase overlaid with curly willow branches and topped with a dramatic spray of white dendrobium orchids. To complement the candles on the low tables, floating candles in glass cylinder vases added a romantic, warm touch.
