Barbara and Mark’s spring wedding at the Metropolitan Club in Washington DC was a study in timeless elegance, with every detail rooted in a palette of crisp blues and soft whites. The historic club offered the kind of refined backdrop where florals could shine—classic enough to carry tradition, yet versatile enough to let the couple’s personal style come through.
Founded in the mid-1800s, the Metropolitan Club is one of Washington’s most storied venues, with interiors that evoke a sense of old-world sophistication. Its soaring ceilings, rich wood details, and grand chandeliers create a space where even the most delicate flowers feel elevated. For us as designers, that kind of environment is a joy—it allows florals to hold their own against the weight of history, creating a dialogue between past and present.
For the ceremony, we created two glass urn arrangements brimming with white and blue hydrangea. Their sculptural shapes and generous petals softened the formality of the Club’s architecture while still echoing its symmetry. The result was both graceful and abundant, the perfect frame for Barbara and Mark’s vows.
The reception carried the palette forward in a way that felt layered and personal. Each table featured centerpieces in blue-and-white chinoiserie vases, brimming with hydrangea in shades of ivory and blue. The patterned vessels brought cohesion across the ballroom, while the full blooms added texture and volume. The look was polished but never fussy—a balance we love to strike when designing for venues as grand as the Metropolitan Club.
Barbara and Mark’s Metropolitan Club DC wedding will stay with us as a perfect example of how florals can honor tradition while still creating something fresh. Hydrangea, in all their sculptural abundance, spoke to the season and the setting, while the chinoiserie details tied everything together seamlessly. It was the kind of day that reminded us why spring weddings in Washington are so special: history, beauty, and florals all working in harmony.
