This past May, wedding bells (finally) rang for Viv and Jordan’s nuptials at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC May. By all indications, it was a much anticipated event, having first been scheduled for 2020, then 2021, and finally taking place in 2022. And the wedding did not disappoint! When it comes to a classic and elegant city wedding, there are few wedding venues as perfect as the Mayflower Hotel. We created a romantic blush and ivory floral palette with an abundance of gold accents that were perfectly suited for this Mayflower Hotel wedding.
Viv carried an elegant bouquet full of peonies, garden roses, astilbe, ranunculus, lisianthus, and eucalyptus foliage. The romantic floral palette was perfect for a Mayflower Hotel wedding! Wearing pale pink gowns, the bridesmaids held smaller bouquets with a complementary floral palette.
Oftentimes, the flowers for the ceremony play second fiddle to the the reception, which is not only the primary focus of the floral and decor but also where the majority of the day takes place. That was not the case for this Mayflower Hotel wedding. The ceremony aisle was lined with petite bouquets of pale pink and white roses, astilbe, and stock on every single row, each finished with ivory satin ribbon. At the head of the aisle, a round stage was backed by a soft ivory drape in a crossed pattern. The stage was set with not two, not four, but SIX very large arrangements atop urns on graduated height pedestals. To say the set up was breathtaking is an understatement!
Once guests filtered out of the Mayflower’s State Room, they progressed down the hallway to find first a stately escort card table arrangement in the center of the hall, followed by elegant, gold etagères set with flutes of champagne, and lest any detail be neglected, flowers on alternating shelves.
Meanwhile, the ballroom held yet another elegant surprise for the dinner and dancing. Centerpieces included lush flowers in gold compotes, gold candlesticks with blush taper candles, and tall gold vases with classic blush and white floral arrangements. Despite variaty of centerpieces, everything flowed together seamlessly and cohesively. You would never know it, but we repurposed the ceremony arrangements from their elegant urns to different stands for the reception. The dramatic display, finished with taper candles and petite designs in gold julep cups, made for elegant King’s tables flanking the dance floor. So many candles. How many, you ask? Between the round and long guest tables, we used over 60 taper candles alone – and that doesn’t take into account the number of votives used. But wait! There’s more! The sweetheart table featured a lush long and low design of wedding flowers in romantic pinks and whites.
It is an honor to serve all of our couples, but it has been a special honor to bring dreams to fruition for those who have waited so long. Congrats to Viv and Jordan!
