Classic Elegance Meets Romantic History

Classic Elegance Meets Romantic History

Oh, what a day for love and elegance in the heart of Washington, DC! Betsy and Beau’s wedding at the iconic Hay Adams Hotel was nothing short of a fairytale – think classic vibes a la Kate Middleton meets the timeless grace of Jackie Kennedy, but with a twist that was all their own. In the world of luxury weddings, few venues can rival the historic charm and sophistication of the Hay Adams Hotel in Washington DC. This iconic location was the perfect backdrop for Betsy and Beau’s wedding.

This story begins on one fateful night, when Senator John F. Kennedy proposed to Jacqueline Bouvier at Martin’s Tavern in the Georgetown neighborhood in Washington, DC. Fast forward several years, and an equally stylish couple meets for their first date in the same tavern. A stranger looks at them and exclaims, “Where’s the ring?!” Charming and prophetic in hindsight.

From the get-go, Betsy was a vision with her petite cascade bouquet, a nod to royal weddings but with a personal flair. This exquisite design featured petite blooms of white tweedia, ivory spray roses, and fluttery accents that can only be white sweet pea finished with camellia foliage. This beauty wasn’t just about looking regal; it was a perfect harmony of classic white and greens, setting the tone for the entire day. Picture this: a bouquet so chic, it could’ve graced the pages of a history book, yet so fresh, it screamed modern bride. The bridal squad? Eight fabulous bridesmaids in crisp white, each holding the cutest petite bouquets of white tweedia. They were the epitome of chic and complemented Betsy’s look to a tee.

The Georgetown Presbyterian Church set the stage for their “I dos,” and let me tell you, it was a floral fantasy. Elegant swags of flowers on the doors welcomed guests into a love-filled sanctuary, while flowers gracefully lined the aisle, leading to two majestic traditional altar arrangements. The scene was set for romance!

Transitioning to the reception at the Hay Adams Hotel, guests were greeted with a visual feast of florals. If you thought the church was stunning, hold onto your hats! Tall, expressive arrangements on glass Garnier vases took the glam up a notch, making the venue look like something out of a luxury wedding magazine. And for those cozy, intimate vibes, the rest of the tables featured glass compotes with lush, low arrangements and dancing taper candles. Pure romance and sophistication!

Betsy and Beau’s wedding at the Hay Adams Hotel was a splendid mix of history, romance, and top-tier elegance. Every detail, from the awe-inspiring floral arrangements to the classic color palette, was a nod to love, history, and timeless style. It was a day where classic met contemporary, where love stories of the past and present intertwined, all in the majestic setting of Washington DC. What a day, what a celebration!

Amanda & Jack’s Woodend wedding drew its inspiration from a William Morris print - lush, romantic, and rooted in nature. The florals carried that spirit through every detail: moss runners lined the tables, dotted with petite brown bottles of chamomile, blush spray roses, and wisps of greenery that felt as if they had grown there overnight. Cloche domes held tiny blooms like keepsakes. Brass animals cradled florals as though part of the garden itself, a perfect nod to the nature sanctuary venue. (Which ones can you find?) Even the greenery-lined staircase framing the cake echoed the same story. Every bloom was chosen for texture and movement, bringing that painterly, botanical world to life in three dimensions.

We call it the creep…

Everyone talks about the rising cost of flowers, but there’s another story behind the numbers: time. Over the years, wedding timelines have stretched. First looks, detail shots, getting-ready portraits, ceremony and reception setups starting hours earlier than before, and more complex with event breakdowns. Florists are often still paid by the piece, not by the hour, yet the hours have multiplied.

What was once a 2 to 4 hour delivery day has quietly turned into a 12 to 16 hour production days with setup, standby, and late-night breakdowns. And flowers are still perishable, so they cannot sit out waiting for the photography timeline to catch up.

When couples ask why flowers cost more now, this is part of the answer. It is not just about stems or supply chains. It is the labor, the logistics, and the reality that perfection takes time, often a lot more than it used to.
