The Corcoran never seems to be a bad location for a wedding, adding a natural sense of grandeur and elegance to any event. Miriam and Amit’s fall museum wedding was no different. With a rich color scheme of burgundies, blushes of pink, sage greens and navy, their wedding last September took advantage of some of the unique aspects of late summer flowers.
Miriam’s bouquet still stands out as one of our favorites from 2013. She carried a richly textured bouquet of “Juliet” garden roses, “Cafe au Lait” dahlia, white freesia, lisianthus, and cymbidium orchids accented with burgundy dahlia and mini-calla lilies. Touches of blue were brought in through navy blue viburnum berry, and the vintage looseness she loved came in through touches of seeded eucalyptus foliage. The bridesmaids’ bouquets complemented Miriam’s flowers, adding champagne roses, light pink astilbe, and burgundy scabiosa as a way of making them similar but distinct from the bridal.
Because the timing of the fall museum wedding took place very close to Rosh Hashanah, the reception flowers embraced the food custom of apples and honey, which symbolize the hope for a sweet new year. Apples were to be found throughout the arrangements – from filling the vase of the escort card table to serving as an accent to the flowers themselves. (Jars of honey were the favor!)
Sometimes there are unusual circumstances where you get to know a couple and their family in slightly unusual ways after the wedding than during the whole process. Following the wedding, we got a frantic email from the bride’s sister. It seems that after the wedding, their cat ate part of the bride’s bouquet! She is luckily also a veterinarian, so we were able to simply and quickly provide a list of the flowers in the bouquet and the crisis was averted. But it is definitely a memorable part of the wedding!
