View of the room for Fairmont Washington DC Hotel wedding

Erica and Rob were married last winter at a Fairmont Washington DC Hotel wedding. They came to us with a vision for the wedding that was moody, romantic and filled with lots of cozy candlelight. The soft glow of candles adds warmth to any wedding, but there is no time where it’s better suited than in gloom of winter. It just adds that extra spark of romance to the day, and certainly did for this Fairmont winter wedding.

We used lots of rich, jewel toned blooms, such as burgundy mini-calla lilies, burgundy astrantia, burgundy ranunculus, blue thistle, gray hues such as dusty miller, and silver brunea pods and succulents with black-eyed anemone rounding out the palette. The flower girls carried petite bouquets similar to the bridal. The rich hues contrasted beautifully with the bright white tones of the sanctuary at Holy Trinity.

Nothing evokes romance quite like flickering candlelight, and they were placed on every table in one manner or another. The head table was covered with dense runner of alternating silver lanterns and candles. The simplicity of the candles allowed the beautiful pattern on the linens to stand out. Each lantern was accented with a whimsical design of ranunculus, astrantia, roses and eucalyptus atop. The soft glow of candles emanated from the remaining tables, accented with a hint of the natural as artfully placed stems of silver dollar and seeded eucalyptus ringed the candles. Not detail was neglected. A sprig of ruscus was placed at each napkin.

Industrial spaces have a beauty of their own, but the right floral design can take them from warehouse to urban garden. 🌿✨

For Laura & Michael’s Dock 5 wedding, we played with scale—tall magnolia branches to emphasize the height, lush florals to soften the space, and candlelight to add warmth. The result? An urban oasis that felt both grand and intimate.

1️⃣Go Big with Greenery – Tall magnolia branches brought height and movement to Laura & Michael’s Dock 5 wedding

2️⃣ Mix Textures – Lush, low floral arrangements softened the industrial edges while keeping the space dynamic

3️⃣ Layer Candlelight – Warm glows + metal details = a romantic urban oasis

4️⃣ Frame Key Spaces – A floral garland on the head table grounded the design and added intimacy. Trees flanking the table took it to the next level

5️⃣ Contrast is Key – Pairing the raw, industrial elements with soft florals and organic details created the perfect balance

Not all green and white floral palettes are created equal. This one here will NEVER go out of style and is truly as timeless as they come! Magnolia, eucalyptus, rosemary, and delicate touches of white… Add velvet linens and gold touches, and we’re smitten... 😍
