Venue Spotlight: Dumbarton House

Dumbarton House DC reception

Ready for another virtual venue walk through? Today we’re casting our spotlight on Dumbarton House. Located at 2715 Q Street, NW, the venue is a Federal style house located on the northern edge of the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC. This chic house is perfect for the couple that loves history, classic style, and gardens.

About

Dumbarton House served as a private residence until it was purchased by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in 1928 for use as their national headquarters. In addition to serving the NSCDA’s administrative needs, it is also a historic house museum interpreting domestic life in Georgetown in the early federal period. The wall and garden niche, which extends the length of the garden, was designed by architect Fiske Kimball during Dumbarton’s 1932 restoration. The garden incorporates elements of Federal era gardens, including crape myrtle and tulip poplar trees.

Location: Georgetown

Capacity:

70 seated with a band in the Belle Vue room alone

160 seated guests with dance floor in Belle Vue Room with tented courtyard.

Pro Tips:

We love the gracious entry and especially creating a personalized welcome here, with wreaths on the front gate. The outdoor garden is exquisite, and a great place for ceremonies, cocktail hours and photos. Like all venues that rely on the outdoors, it’s great to have a rain plan and both the upper terrace and the Belle Vue courtyard can be tented. Classic green and white palettes with lots of gardeny touches really pop in here against the stone. Long tables or a mix of rectangles and rounds play up the intimacy of the space.

Industrial spaces have a beauty of their own, but the right floral design can take them from warehouse to urban garden. 🌿✨

For Laura & Michael’s Dock 5 wedding, we played with scale—tall magnolia branches to emphasize the height, lush florals to soften the space, and candlelight to add warmth. The result? An urban oasis that felt both grand and intimate.

1️⃣Go Big with Greenery – Tall magnolia branches brought height and movement to Laura & Michael’s Dock 5 wedding

2️⃣ Mix Textures – Lush, low floral arrangements softened the industrial edges while keeping the space dynamic

3️⃣ Layer Candlelight – Warm glows + metal details = a romantic urban oasis

4️⃣ Frame Key Spaces – A floral garland on the head table grounded the design and added intimacy. Trees flanking the table took it to the next level

5️⃣ Contrast is Key – Pairing the raw, industrial elements with soft florals and organic details created the perfect balance

Not all green and white floral palettes are created equal. This one here will NEVER go out of style and is truly as timeless as they come! Magnolia, eucalyptus, rosemary, and delicate touches of white… Add velvet linens and gold touches, and we’re smitten... 😍
