Venue Spotlight: District Winery

Each week, we have been sharing some of our favorite places for wedding in Washington, DC to help you narrow down your search. This week we take you to District Winery wedding venue. Virginia boasts a number of picturesque wineries, but did you know? You can have that winery aesthetic right here in Washington, DC.

About

Located at 385 Water Street, SE in the Navy Yard neighborhood, District Winery is the first commercial winery in Washington, DC. The sophisticated, waterfront wedding venue features floor to ceiling windows, an outdoor terrace and a stunning river view. And ooh la la, is the view to die for!

Capacity: up to 200 guests

Pro Tips:

We love to see lots of greenery in the space to complement the rustic, winery vibe. Go a little wild with a lush ceiling treatment of smilax or suspended candles. Suspended anything really! It’s a space with a wealth of hanging points making it easy to hang from.

Decorate the stairway entry in a way that really wows guests as they arrive. You can choose between the entrance staircase on the first level or concentrate your efforts on the second flight from mezzanine to third floor. The long tables included in the venue’s family style service feature stunning table stops. It looks fabulous with garland or lots of candles, but the tables are ultimately quite narrow, making the idea of investing your decor in order to invest in augmenting the venue itself more of a unique opportunity than at many other venues.

Industrial spaces have a beauty of their own, but the right floral design can take them from warehouse to urban garden. 🌿✨

For Laura & Michael’s Dock 5 wedding, we played with scale—tall magnolia branches to emphasize the height, lush florals to soften the space, and candlelight to add warmth. The result? An urban oasis that felt both grand and intimate.

1️⃣Go Big with Greenery – Tall magnolia branches brought height and movement to Laura & Michael’s Dock 5 wedding

2️⃣ Mix Textures – Lush, low floral arrangements softened the industrial edges while keeping the space dynamic

3️⃣ Layer Candlelight – Warm glows + metal details = a romantic urban oasis

4️⃣ Frame Key Spaces – A floral garland on the head table grounded the design and added intimacy. Trees flanking the table took it to the next level

5️⃣ Contrast is Key – Pairing the raw, industrial elements with soft florals and organic details created the perfect balance

Not all green and white floral palettes are created equal. This one here will NEVER go out of style and is truly as timeless as they come! Magnolia, eucalyptus, rosemary, and delicate touches of white… Add velvet linens and gold touches, and we’re smitten... 😍
