Destination Wedding at Home

Petal’s Edge is not necessarily a destination wedding florist. As a leading wedding florist in Alexandria, VA, we prides ourselves on creating unforgettable floral experiences for the most special days here in the Washington, DC metro area. Using premium, unique blooms as our medium, there is little that is more important than in the life of a florist then when one of our nearest and dearest weds the love of their life. For Petal’s Edge, this has happened once before, and then this past July, we had the distinct honor of designing the wedding flowers for one of our esteemed studio manager at Petal’s Edge, as he wed his love. Although their wedding was a delightful journey a few hours south to Staunton, Virginia, our roots in Alexandria’s luxury wedding floral scene greatly influenced our approach to their special day.

The venue, Hotel 24 South in Staunton, served as the perfect canvas for our floral designs. The event became a destination wedding for us in two ways: first, the location itself, midway between each of the grooms’ hometowns. And second, as we transformed the venue into a Mediterranean resort-inspired haven, inspired by the Mediterranean charm of White Lotus and its Sicilian backdrop. We crafted a vibrant palette of peaches, oranges, and corals that beautifully complemented the venue’s elegance. We spend three days working and then transporting the blooms, transforming the space into a romantic and Mediterranean resort-inspired scene.

In line with our reputation as a premier wedding florist in Alexandria, we paid close attention to every detail. One groom’s personal floral attire included an elegant wrist piece of white, peach, and coral phalaenopsis orchids, a twist on wearable flowers, while his groom’s fashion-forward pocket square featured subtle shades of peaches and pale blues. The groomsmaids’ bouquets echoed these sophisticated hues.

The ceremony was a true testament to our expertise in luxury wedding floristry. The aisle opened with striking olive branch arrangements in glass Garnier vases, leading to a lush garden pathway. The highlight was a color-blocked, deconstructed arch, symbolizing the union of the two partners, with one arm in shades of peach and orange and the other in blue.

The true masterpiece of the reception was the 16-feet of continuous floral arrangements that ran down the center of the head tables, interspersed with tall olive leaf designs. Blue-and white containers of varying sizes, white and gold vases, and white Grecian busts were filled with monobotanic designs of dahlias, ranunculus, butterfly ranunculus, zinnia, freesia, plumosa, gloriosa lilies, and more. And as if that wasn’t enough, the table was finished with layer upon layers of citrus – orange, grapefruit, and lemons. Stemmed glass vases each held floating candle, introducing a final romantic touch to the table.

Gold footed compotes were placed on the remaining tables, each with a lush design of flowers. We spared no expense in blending a rich array of orange blooms, including dahlias, ranunculus, Coral Double Expression and Kahala roses, local snapdragons, gloriosa lilies and butterfly bush. Our dedication to luxury wedding floristry in Alexandria, VA, shone through in every aspect of the wedding. Post-ceremony, guests were greeted by a custom-designed wall with a pale blue tile pattern and an ombre escort card display, culminating in a custom neon sign. The reception’s centerpiece was a 16-foot-long continuous floral arrangement along the head tables, interspersed with olive leaf designs – a true masterpiece befitting a high-end wedding.

Sprigs of orange butterfly ranunculus perched on the tiers of the pale blue cake, where the ceremony arch did double duty as a picturesque frame for the sweet moment.

Destination wedding took on new meaning as we brought Alexandria – and Sicily – to Staunton, Virginia, for an ever so memorable day!

Advice I’d give you as a florist if I wasn’t afraid of hurting your feelings…

1. Creativity costs money

Thoughtful choices matter. Floral design comes from premium blooms, careful mechanics, and hours of labor. Often, investing in a few impactful designs creates more magic than trying to do a little bit everywhere.

2. Pinterest isn’t reality.

Styled shoots, filters, and out-of-season flowers can set unrealistic expectations. A skilled florist translates your inspiration into something real, beautiful, and perfectly suited to your wedding.

3. Your choice of wedding planner can be a 🚩

A strong planner protects your vision and collaborates with your creative team. But not every planner has the same level of experience, and misplaced trust can cost you money, time, and beauty. Surround yourself with professionals who set you up for success. Protecting quality is how your vision comes to life

4. Repurposing only works with a plan.

Yes, some ceremony flowers can move into the reception, but it requires staff, timing, and logistics. With forethought, it’s seamless and impactful. Without it, it can create stress or compromise the design.

5. Timing is everything.

Flowers are living things with a short window of perfection. A carefully built schedule protects bouquets, keeps installations fresh, and ensures your flowers look their best when it matters most.

🌸 And one note for fellow vendors: florists care deeply. I don’t know a single one who doesn’t. We want to give couples our very best work. But flowers are perishable, which means details matter. When timelines push us to deliver too early, when arrangements are dismantled without our input, or when fading blooms are photographed as “detail shots,” the couple’s vision suffers. Collaboration is what protects the flowers and, ultimately, the experience we all want for our clients.

The truth may not always be easy to hear, but hearing it early will save stress, protect your vision, and give you flowers that feel unforgettable for all the right reasons. ✨
Victorian elegance met modern romance at the Fairmont. ✨ Centerpieces have the power to set the tone for an entire ballroom. Half the guest tables featured tall silver candelabras topped with textured designs of hydrangea, roses, dahlias, and lisianthus in shades of pink and burgundy. More than accents, the elevated designs added height, repetition, and cohesion throughout the room. The balance of tables held silver footed bowls brimming with the same rich palette, styled in a looser, organic shape. Together, the mix of height, texture, and candlelight created a romantic atmosphere that was timeless and unforgettable — the kind of detail that takes a wedding from beautiful to truly show-stopping. 🌸✨

Diane & Michael’s autumn wedding at the Westin Georgetown redefined fall florals. 💙 Instead of the traditional rust and burgundy hues, their palette celebrated cooler tones: light blue hydrangea, lavender stock, and blue and lavender delphinium layered with roses and spray roses, even whimsical purple globe allium. Lush greenery framed the look, adding depth and texture. The result was elegant and unexpected — a design that felt fresh, refined, and utterly romantic in every detail. ✨
