Some weddings feel like a study in classic elegance—and Anne and Ferdi’s black and white DC Army Navy Club wedding in downtown Washington, DC was exactly that. Held this past April, the event was an ode to timeless style and sophisticated floral detail, made even more meaningful by subtle personal touches throughout the day.
The DC Army Navy Club on Farragut Square is the picture of classic Washington, D.C. elegance, with its grand columns, sparkling chandeliers, and stately architecture that practically begs for a black-tie affair. With such a dramatic setting, our floral designs took on a tone of understated luxury, letting texture and subtle detail shine.
Anne carried a crisp, all-white bouquet with texture and depth: garden roses, lisianthus, and ranunculus bloomed in harmony, with delicate bleached ruscus adding a whisper of softness and movement. Her bridesmaids held smaller versions composed of Tibet roses and lisianthus for a cohesive look that still let the bride shine. The groom wore a single white ranunculus blossom, accented with a hint of bleached ruscus—understated and refined.
The ceremony unfolded in front of the club’s stately fireplace, transformed with a lush mantle design of draping smilax vine, lemon leaf, and ruscus. Tucked into the foliage were white garden roses, spray roses, and white stock, with a beautiful and symbolic twist: white peacock feathers nestled gently among the blooms.
The reception was a celebration of light and form. Tables featured white compote arrangements with textured blooms: hydrangea, stock, frilled tulips, roses, and black-centered anemones, all set off with bleached ferns and dark ruscus. Another set of tables featured a collection of smoke glass candleholders and petite vases of reflexed roses flickered against the glow. Elevated arrangements flanking the dance floor brought height and movement, combining white florals with lush greenery.
Anne and Ferdi’s DC Army Navy Club wedding proved that classic doesn’t mean predictable — with carefully layered details and floral textures, it was utterly unforgettable.
