Champagne Modern Wedding at Hotel Monaco

The Hotel Monaco in DC is one of those unique gems in Washington – classically styled architecture merged with the modern sensibilities of a boutique hotel. And with that inspiration as the backdrop, Lauren and Geoff’s June wedding took advantage of both elements!

With a color palette of candlelight whites and ivories, champagne hues, and accents of gold, Lauren’s bouquet featured classic textures and soft romantic shapes. The bouquet of white peonies, ivory ‘Vendela’ roses and white mini-calla lilies was finished with touches of champagne hued ‘Quicksand’ roses. Against a striking patterns and sequined dress, her maid of honor’s bouquet was fashioned from ivory and champagne roses and mini-calla lilies. To complement, the groom’s boutonniere was designed using a white rose and the best man in champagne.

The ceremony at the Hotel Monaco took on a decidedly modern turn. Taking advantage of the soaring architectural feature supporting the central dome, a panel of white organza was suspended seemingly transparently between the four columns. A line of hanging votives on gold wire created the suggestion of the supports for the chuppah in an ethereal and romantic way. An elegant fabric runner marked the aisle for the otherwise in-the-round set up for the ceremony.

Centered on the escort card table was an elegant gold vase with a classic design of white hydrangea, stock, ivory and champagne roses, and spray roses. The reception tables combined modern and classic sensibilities. Classic gold bowls held contemporary, tailored arrangements of white hydrangea, stock, dahlia, spray roses, and mini-calla lilies, accented with ivory and champagne roses. Elegant stemmed votives with floating candles brought a romantic touch of candlelight to each table in the Hotel Monaco‘s ballroom.

It’s been a very long time since floral centerpieces were just flowers in a vase. Today’s centerpieces have multiple elements, loads of candles, things that have to be assembled and even built on-site. And yet the presumption persists that the florist is just going to show up with a box that can be left in the corner for someone else to place on the table.

Putting aside the fact that we take far more pride in our work than that… to say that we value logistics and planning is an understatement!! And logistics are truly our skill set. We can tell you how many man hours a particular installation will take and can design for efficiency. It’s truly our super power.

Most floral design relies on other things being in place. Not useful? “You can get into the room at this time.” Actually useful? “The bar you’re building that cascading piece on will in place no later than X o’clock.” But more than that? Start realizing that event demands are not what they used to be.

The Crystal Room is always a lot of look. Those green marble columns, the chandeliers... and yet it`s so quintessentially DC! There`s something about that room that makes pink feel completely at home.⁣

It took us straight back to Sophia & Daniel`s wedding ceremony in the same space. Pink baby`s breath, roses, the whole thing. Two totally different events, same magic. Pink and the Crystal Room? We`re convinced it`s a love story. 💚🌸⁣

Meridian House is one of those venues that makes people fall in love the second they see it. The gardens, the historic rooms, the feeling that you`ve stumbled onto this beautiful hidden place in the middle of Washington. It is such a privilege to design there.⁣
⁣
For Erica & Matt, the goal was to keep the flowers feeling like an eloquent dinner party. We filled the tables with hydrangea, stock, roses and spray roses, and lisianthus and lots and lots of candles so the rooms felt alive and welcoming the moment guests walked in. I remember stepping back once everything was set and thinking how light the whole space felt — like spring had simply decided to move inside for the evening.⁣

And when Erica & Matt walked in and saw the room for the first time? The smiles said everything.⁣
