Shira and Akshay’s beautiful, black and white Mayflower wedding was truly elegant in every detail – and gave us a new vantage point from which to view the wedding. We recently began to offer some special services for a select number of weddings each year. In addition to designing the flowers and decor, we provide event management services in which our staff sees a couple through the whole day. After ten years in the business, it was a natural blend of our talents! We are now familiar with so many different kinds of weddings – since flowers frequently play into many of the rituals – and since our work is heavy on logistics, coordinating with other vendors is something we already do. Providing event management, as we did for Shira and Akshay’s wedding allows us to share the wedding from a whole new viewpoint!
Shira and Akshay were able to take advantage of the many beautiful spaces at the Mayflower Hotel for their portraits in advance of the day’s festivities. We love how serious Akshay looks as he waits for Shira – you can truly feel how much love they have for each other. Being there for the first look between the bride and groom (something we don’t usually get to see as florists alone!) was such a treat. Tears were shed by all, including members of our team.
The day’s festivities started with the groom’s Tish and followed by the couple’s Bedeken. There is nothing more festive than a Jewish Orthodox wedding – the sight of the men being led from the Tish to the bride down the hallway by the rabbi, singing and chanting, made even non-wedding guests at the hotel stop and clap. Simple white vases with black-centered white anemone graced the cocktail tables in the Bedeken room.
Continuing with the black and white theme, the aisle was cordoned off with a black satin ribbon. The bride’s parents escorted Shira down the aisle, and the ceremony took place beneath an elegant silk crepe chuppah. Shira carried a lush bouquet of white peonies and ivory garden roses. The junior bridesmaids carried delicate “wands” of white mini-calla lilies finished with black satin ribbon.
Nothing says classic Mayflower wedding like lush and abundant designs and a timeless black and white wedding palette. The escort card table featured three glass cylinder vases of varying heights, each with mounds and mounds of white hydrangea and footed with a mix of floating and pillar candles around the base. For the reception, the tables alternated between tall and low designs, each in a black vase and topped with a simple and impressive pouf of white hydrangea. There was seating on both levels of the Grand Ballroom, the bride and groom seated in the balcony overlooking the room. Simple black-and-white boxes held the favors.
Because the wedding was kosher, an outside caterer provided the food, and Foremost Ram truly outdid themselves in both service and the deliciousness of the meal.
And a great night was had by all! Thank you so much for allowing us to help you excecute such a wonderful wedding day. We wish Shira and Akshay a lifetime of happiness together!
