When designing a wedding, you first begin with the space. It’s easy enough when you’re in a hotel or historic site, but when your goal is a backyard wedding, lots of questions arise. What are you working with? Are there areas that need to be draped and/or hidden? What is the flow of people? Like many couples this year, Clara and Andrew’s original plans were not to be in their backyard for the wedding but rather at Glen Echo Park. Undeterred, however, they decided to go forward with their nuptials, and have an intimate family backyard wedding, and what a hit it was!
Clara and Andrew wanted a fresh and romantic design with unique rustic touches and pops of gorgeous blue. We used fluffy blooms like hydrangea, peonies and ranunculus mixed with textures like delphinium, dusty miller and lots and lots of eucalyptus. Clara’s bouquet featured crisp white peonies, dahlia and stock accented with delphinium and eucalyptus. The bouquet was wrapped in a rustic, burlap ribbon.
The backyard wedding ceremony was set with a beautifully decorated arch. The arch was covered in smilax greenery, and fine white and blue textures like peonies, delphinium, roses, and spray roses. Rustic pails were filled with clouds of baby’s breath to demarcate the aisle.
Farm tables and garland absolutely transformed the back yard reception space into the site of a festive and intimate family celebration. Wood disks with candles, lanterns, and mason jars filled with wedding blooms added yet another gorgeous texture to the table.
