When a bride starts by describing her wedding tropical-colonial and as a cross between the party scenes in Sabrina and The Shining, you know you are going to have fun! We adored Amanda’s aesthetic for the wedding – edgy, organic, something to take the stuffiness out of Anderson House, lots of greenery. We landed at a Southern Gothic Anderson House wedding that was as unique as could be. Amanda was planning the wedding from Los Angeles, and wouldn’t be in town until shortly before the wedding. We crafted the entire design over several emails. The wedding was truly one of our favorites of the year.
Now you might think with how Amanda favored all things tropical that we’d see lots of bright colors; however, the chosen color scheme was ivory, black, and gold with greens. While she loved bird of paradise, those kinds of flowers were not a part of the more toned down look of the event. The bride carried a bouquet of lush tropical greens with accents of white – variegated aralia, aspidistra, area palm, philodendron with accented of white cymbidium orchids and draping green amaranthus. A delicate floral crown of stephanotis vine completed the tropical and organic feel, the groom wearing a matching boutonniere of stephanotis on his white dinner jacket. The bridesmaids carried similar bouquets of lush greens.
We love a man in a kilt and the plaids worn for the wedding were such a unique touch. The intimate ceremony took place at the back of the house, potted palms flanking the couple.
For the reception, cocktail tables alternated between gardenia floating atop a nest of bear grass, floating candles in a bed of palm leaves, and gold cube vases with white anthurium. A dramatic design of bird of paradise – one of Amanda’s favorites – were seated in a bed of lush tropical leaves with wisps of zebra grass.
The reception tables featured hurricanes in a bed of tropical leaves. Lush wreaths of tropical greens including monstera, aralia, and areca palms accented with miniature pineapples rings hurricane vases with ivory candles. The buffet featured a tall design of monstera, philodendron, palmetto fans and an usual tropical called Bo Derek hair. Stephanotis vine was used to ring the cake table.
It was such a pleasure to collaborate on this edgy, Southern Gothic Anderson House wedding. We wish Amanda and Josh years of happiness!
