Anderson House DC Wedding

Anderson House DC Wedding

Anderson House DC wedding reception

There’s nothing like an Anderson House DC wedding. One of Washington, DC’s most elegant venues, Anderson House is a true hidden gem for weddings near Dupont Circle. The headquarters of the Society of the Cincinati, the nation’s oldest patriotic organization, the Florentine villa style building has been a site of entertaining in the city for more than one hundred years. In addition to hosting presidents and princes, it was host to Heather and Clifford’s late September wedding at Anderson House. In a nod to the groom’s heritage, the wedding featured a rich palette of reds and burgundies, a color scheme equally appropriate for autumn as for the Asian tradition of using red for weddings.

The floral palette for the personal flowers was clean-lined and modern. Heather carried burgundy mini-calla lilies, as did her maid of honor. Clifford wore a matching boutonniere accented with red hypericum berries. Mothers carried petite posies of white mini-calla lilies.

Flanking the ceremony were two striking altar arrangements in wrought iron stands. Each held a dramatic design of burgundy snapdragons, red mokara and James Storei orchids, and red gladiola.

The cocktail hour took place around the reflecting pool, where large lanterns were placed at the corners. The reception featured two elegant, long tables with guests seated on each side. Tall fluted glass vases spaced evenly across the length of the table held expressive designs of red orchids, gladiola and snapdragons, with orchids submerged within the vases. Many of the guests commented that the reception had the elegance of sitting at a State Dinner. Interspersed between the tall arrangements, a mix of gold bowls and mint julep cups held monochromatic designs of red flowers. Some containers featured a textured presentation of roses, spray roses, calla lilies, orchids, berries and dahlias while others held lush, single varieties of flowers. A simple topper of red and burgundy flowers crowned the top of the cake.

A rooftop celebration that proves timeless can still be bold. For Elaine & Trey’s wedding at Capitol View at 400, we leaned into classic green and white, but elevated it with sculptural greenery installations, gold Harlow stands, and skyline views that stretched for miles. A ceiling of foliage softened the tented space, while sleek black bridesmaid dresses added contrast and edge. Clean, refined, and impossibly romantic.

It’s Bike to Work Day — and while we usually pedal toward petals, we couldn’t resist sharing this creative twist from Elle & Bryan, one of our couples who wheeled their love of cycling straight into the ceremony. 🚲✨

Elle & Bryan’s wedding at Dumbarton House was full of charm, personal touches, and one especially fun nod to their love of cycling. Bicycle wheels became sculptural backdrops, proving that when it comes to personal touches, there’s no such thing as too niche.

Designing florals around unexpected objects? That’s our lane. And yes — it was all uphill in the best possible way.
