Seasonal Inspiration: The Best Summer Wedding Flowers

Colorful floral palette of summer wedding flowers

If you’ve chosen a summer wedding, you’re definitely choosing a prime time for flowers! Whether you’re going for a refined modern look or a rustic, wildflower vibe, there are summer wedding flowers that will perfectly match your vibe. What is your summer inspiration? Do you favor a palette that is hot-hot-hot! Neutrals with lush foliage? Or are you looking for more cool hues? Let’s look at some popular palettes past clients of Petal’s Edge have chosen before.

Options for Summer Wedding Flowers

After picking a palette, it’s time to delve into specific blooms! The most unique summer wedding flowers include dahlias, coxcomb, sunflowers and hydrangea. These blooms scream summer! Heat is always an issue for those June – July – August months, so we like making sure your summer blooms include some hearty, less-prone-to-wilting flowers. Think tropicals, air plants, succulents. Roses, orchids and calla lilies are hearty choices as well. Ample greenery is also a great option for summer, especially something to hold up those less sturdy blooms. While not necessarily hearty, airy botanicals like Queen Anne’s lace makes summer arrangements feel less dense and heavy. Add rich green foliages like ruscus, lemon leaf or geranium for a summer feel.

Pro tip:

Summer has some unique weather challenges you’ll want to keep in mind. Once cut, summer blooms may start out fresh and vibrant, but after making contact with the sun, heat, and humidity, they can wilt, droop -or worse, die! -in no time at all. Establish how your summer wedding flowers will be used (indoors or outdoors) and during what time of the day.

State of the Floral Industry (2025 edition)

Trump’s tariffs are back (or are they? 🤔) The frequent changes sure make it hard to plan!

Things we know:

The proposed high tariffs on Chinese goods (and possibly broader import penalties) mean a LOT of the mechanics florists use every day—vases, ribbons, wire, foam, candles, and more—could suddenly cost way more.

🌹 Flowers could be affected too…

While most fresh flowers aren’t imported from China, the cost of logistics, packaging, and materials often is. Tariffs raise prices on the tools we need to get your flowers from field to bouquet. And tariffs haven’t been levied on only China.

💰 Prices are already tight.

Labor shortages, fuel increases, climate issues—all things florists have been juggling post-pandemic. Add tariffs? You get a supply chain stress cocktail 🍸, served on a tray of “please don’t shoot the messenger.”

💍 What it means for weddings:

Last-minute swaps might be more common. Flexibility is key

Rental pricing may increase

Trends toward foam-free, sustainable design? Not just aesthetic—they’re economic too

💡 What we have done and recommend doing:

• Stockpiling basics (hello, shelves of vases)

• Diversifying sourcing - we already and have always done this!

• Reworking designs for maximum impact with fewer imports

• Educating planners & clients about rising costs (and how to get the most value)

🎤 Our advice to couples?

Book early - this allows a florist to plan on your behalf

Be flexible - there’s more than one way to implement a design!

And most importantly, TRUST your designer!

This industry has adapted before. We will again!

But as we like to say:
🌷 You can’t fight tariffs with tulips... but we’ll sure try.🌷

POV: You’ve just walked into the most magical wedding ever ✨ 💫

Opulence, romance, and a touch of fairytale magic… Anam & Patrick’s wedding at the Maydlower hotel was a dream come true. A floral palette of blush, ivory and gold set the scene, with lush garden roses, jasmine vine and hydrangea bringing pure elegance to every corner. Tall urns framed the ceremony, candlelight cast a soft glow over the ballroom, and even the napkins got a floral touch 🌿. No detail was left untouched in this enchanting celebration!
