Your Perfect Wedding Table Centerpieces

Your Perfect Wedding Table Centerpieces

Floral centerpiece for DAR Constitution Hall wedding in Washington, DC

Wedding table centerpieces make such a big impact at your reception – not only do they serve as a focal point throughout the meal, but they’re also a perfect opportunity for carrying out your carefully-chosen color palette and showing off your own unique sense of style. There’s no limit to the design possibilities for wedding centerpieces, which is just one reason we love creating them! Event decor nomenclature can seem like a foreign language at time, so today we’re sharing a few common styles so you can familiarize yourself with your likes and dislikes.

Low Centerpiece

By definition, a low centerpiece should be low enough that the line of sight is clear across the table. These wedding table centerpieces often use a bowl or compote but can just as easily feature a square or cylinder vase. No matter the container, this style of centerpiece is defined by a single container in the center of the table. Often votives or candles will surround the floral arrangement with the goal of complementing, not competing with, the flowers. Think of the low centerpiece as the star of the table! It is equally appropriate for a garden party style of celebration, a traditionally elegant fete, or an outdoor reception with rustic touches.

Composite or Collection Centerpiece

A variation on the low centerpiece is a composite or collection centerpiece. It consists of multiple smaller containers with or without candles, votives and other elements. Smaller bud vase or mint julep-size containers can be mixed with candles to create a visually interesting tablescape. Done right, these centerpieces lend variety to the room without impeding view across the table.

Tall Centerpieces

Often the crowd favorite, tall arrangements create instant drama as guests enter a reception space. Like low designs, tall ones shouldn’t obstruct your guests’ view across the table, but clear containers can preserve sight lines. More so than for low designs, the stand you choose for your elevated floral design can impact the overall style of your venue and wedding. For a more traditional look, a footed stand of some sort will lend the classicism you’re looking for while gold or silver can create a luxe look. For a more modern and sleek style, something like a Harlow stand or geometric shape will work. A more ornate stand will lend an old world feel to the reception. The florals themselves can include dramatic branches, cascading blooms for lushness, or a more tightly packed arrangement for a tailored, stylish look.

Garland

Garland is more than just holiday decor. For your wedding, garlands of greenery, greenery and flowers or all flowers are great choices for creating a lush and inviting design for your table. Even dreamier is garland spilling off the table and onto the floor!

Flower Boxes

A twist on the garland look but well-suited to long tables are flower boxes. More raised than garland, they are well-suited to being filled with a variety of lush decor.

Suspended Floral Decor

And last but not least, one of our favorite styles of wedding table centerpieces is not really a centerpiece at all. Suspended floral decor allows you to be more creative and play with shape and scale in a way that transforms the venue altogether. Whether loose and organic or tight and hedge-like, suspended centerpieces create excitement.

MOODY ROMANCE ✨ Daryn & Kelsey’s wedding last weekend was the definition of moody romance. A room glowing in candlelight, black linens setting the stage for elevated greenery hedges kissed 💋 with baby’s breath and dreamy hanging glass globes cradling flickering votives. Black and deep plum tapers paired with glass chimneys added a touch of drama, while the sweetheart table gave our couple the place of honor, accented with lush greenery and flowers in soft mauve and blush.

Every detail felt like it was straight out of a modern fairytale. 🖤 🤍 ✨ What’s your favorite part of this stunning set up?
