A March Wedding Bursting with Spring Elegance

Erin and Jay’s early March wedding at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Washington, DC, was a masterful blend of spring vibrancy and sophisticated glamour. Their modern Pi Day celebration was a picturesque fusion of festive yellows, sleek grays, and deep navy blues.

Floral Fantasies in the Heart of the City

The bride’s bouquet was a vision of elegance, featuring a lush mix of white roses, anemones, ranunculus, mini-callas, and tulips. The warm hues of yellow Butterscotch roses added a cozy touch, while the black centers of the anemones provided a striking modern contrast. The bridesmaids’ bouquets echoed this elegance, combining yellow, white, pale blue, and gray florals, beautifully offsetting their navy dresses.

The groom and his groomsmen exuded modern charm with their mini-calla lily boutonnieres, accentuated with bear grass. These subtle yet stylish accents perfectly complemented the men’s attire, adding a dash of botanical elegance.

Romantic Ambiance in the Ballroom

The ballroom of the Hotel Monaco transformed into a romantic haven. A white organza panel beneath the dome, adorned with a line of hanging votives and textured white flowers, created an ethereal canopy. The drama was heightened by the dramatic yellow forsythia branches lining the aisle.

Escort Card Table and Cocktail Hour Decor

The escort card table was a standout, featuring a navy silk dupioni-wrapped vase with a splendid arrangement of orchids, delphinium, and forsythia in coordinating colors. The cocktail hour tables flaunted a modern touch with glass rectangle vases showcasing submerged stems of yellow mini-callas and white tulips.

Ballroom Elegance with Dramatic Tablescapes

The ballroom was a scene of dramatic elegance, with a mix of tall and low floral designs. Tall glass cylinders with yellow forsythia branches towered over tables, while silver ceramic cylinders overflowed with a lush mix of white hydrangeas, anemones, tulips, ranunculus, roses, delphinium, and dusty miller. The king’s table, draped in glittery navy linen, was adorned with an eclectic array of small vases filled with flowers in white, yellow, gray, and light blue hues.

This bouquet lives rent free in my head, but not for the reason you think.⁣

Our bride, Ana, had chosen stunning fuchsia cattleya orchids for her bouquet, so, as we always do, we ordered them well in advance. When our flowers arrived, I opened the box to find... white cattleya orchids. Beautiful, but not what our bride wanted. We immediately called our wholesaler and arranged for another shipment.⁣

Two days later, I opened the second box. White orchids. Again.⁣
⁣
This is the kind of moment that tries a florist`s soul.⁣
⁣
We arranged for a third shipment to arrive Saturday morning while preparing backup plans we hoped we`d never need. We debated telling Ana what was happening, but ultimately decided our job wasn`t to hand her our problem. Our job was to solve it.⁣
⁣
The correct orchids arrived Saturday morning. Ana walked down the aisle carrying the bouquet she`d dreamed of. She never knew any of this had happened.⁣
⁣
The flowers are only part of what you`re hiring when you chose a florist. You`re also hiring someone who will fight for your vision. Who will MacGyver like their life depends on it. Because substitutions aren`t made casually; they`re made only after every reasonable option has been exhausted.⁣

There`s an ethical dilemma at the heart of this story. As the bride, would you have wanted to know? As the florist, what would you have done?⁣

Every venue has its own personality, and St. Francis Hall certainly does. The stone walls, the arches, the sense of history in the room. As a florist, my job is never to overpower that character. It is to design flowers that feel intentional in the space.⁣
⁣
For Camille & Corwin’s wedding, we took the design in a completely different direction and brought in tropical elements. Camille carried a cascading bouquet of white anthurium, calla lilies, and orchids, with deep green foliage adding bold shape and texture. The bridesmaids carried simple bouquets of anthurium backed with petite monstera leaves, which felt modern and a little unexpected against the historic hall.⁣
⁣
One of the things I love most about designing at St. Francis Hall is that it never forces couples into a single style. The space has enough presence to support classic elegance, garden romance, or something entirely different. Camille and Corwin’s wedding was a perfect reminder of that.⁣

Lucy & Jack’s summer wedding at St. Francis Hall was filled with soft pastels, graceful chinoiserie, and long tables designed for gathering. Towering arrangements of huck foliage added height and movement, while delicate blooms kept everything light and romantic.

A beautiful celebration for Lucy, the third daughter in a family we’ve been honored to flower. 💕

From timeless to joyful. 🤍🍋

Alessandra and David began their wedding day in the Crystal Room at the Willard beneath our new gold chuppah, where an all white floral design let the beauty of the space and the significance of the ceremony take center stage.

Then the celebration took a turn. Guests were greeted by three sculptural lemon displays at the escort table before entering the Willard Room, where lush color blocked floral centerpieces alternated with tables filled with candlelight. Fresh lemons tucked among the candles added the perfect finishing touch, bringing warmth, color, and a playful nod to the couple’s vision.

Some weddings tell one story. This one unfolded beautifully in two acts. ✨
