Davina and Craig got married on what was arguably an incredibly hot, August day (not unusual for a DC summer wedding), but everything about their wedding day did not betray the immense heat. We were honored to have have provided both their wedding flowers as well as day of coordination to keep everything and everyone as cool as a cucumber! Their vision for the wedding flowers was of a vintage and romantic aesthetic, embracing a palette of mauve, blush, sage and gold. Davina’s bridal bouquet consisted of Cool Water roses, Cafe au Lait dahlia, light pink stock, lisianthus, and astilbe, and finally touches of slate blue thistle, seeded eucalyptus and jasmine vine for a wild looseness. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were simpler versions of the bridal, featuring light pink Sweet Eskimo roses accented with jasmine vine and seeded eucalyptus.
The ceremony took place on the lawn at Oxon Hill Manor, with the incredible view of the water in the distance. The bridesmaids and groomsmen arrived arm-in-arm along the aisle (an important expedience on the hot summer day), while Davina arrived down the aisle escorted by her father. The lilting sounds from Washington Virtuosi set the tone for the ceremony. Also a nod to the heat, the groomsmen wore vests, a tidy boutonniere of rose, thistle and eucalyptus providing a hint of color. The adorable flower girl, holding a single bloom of lavender rose, truly stole the show.
The aesthetic for the reception was ethereal and light, with baby’s breath impressively massed in a gold urn for the escort card table and simple table centerpieces of baby’s breath in a gold bowl to match. We assisted the couple in choosing a green burlap linen and complementing pink napkin from amongst the selection at Spilled Milk Catering to add color for the reception. Vintage fans decorated the fireplace and library.
A very sweet, small cake for the couple to cut was the final act of the day, gold rimmed and simply accented with strategically placed lavender roses.
Congratulations to Davina and Craig! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your day!
